# Troubleshoot posts that can't be boosted on your Facebook Page

## Diagnose why your boost is unavailable

  1. Go to your Facebook Page.
  2. Find the post you would like to boost and hover over **Boost unavailable**. You'll see a tip that explains why you're unable to boost the post.
  3. Read the **Boost unavailable** tip. Then from the list below learn more about why your boost is unavailable and what you can try instead.

### Cover photos can't be boosted

Cover Photos can't be turned into ads. We recommend that you apply your budget to boost ads that drive audience engagement and brand awareness. To use your cover photo in an ad, upload the photo as a new post and then boost it.

  1. Go to your Facebook Page. 
  2. Click **Photo** at the top of your Page's timeline.
  3. Click **Upload photos**.
  4. Upload the photo you'd like to boost.
  5. Add a caption or description.
  6. Click **Share now**.
  7. Click **Boost Post** on the new post.
  8. To drive [people](/business/help/283579896000936) from Facebook to take actions that are important to your business, add a post button to your ad (optional).
  9. Select the audience you'd like to reach (may select multiple), or click **Create new audience**. If you click **Create new audience** , you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits like age, location, interests and more.
  10. Click the dropdown menu below **Total budget** to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a prefilled budget or click **Choose your own** and enter a custom budget.
  11. Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to **Run this ad until**.
  12. Select your preferred payment option. If there are no payment options available for your account, you'll be prompted to add one after clicking **Boost**.
  13. Confirm that the rest of the fields are complete.
  14. Click **Boost**.



Once your ad is reviewed and approved, it will start running.

### This post can't be boosted

We’ve retired boost formats that aren’t optimal for advertising so that you can get the most value from Meta ads. Try these other ways of boosting these posts.

### Profile pictures

If your profile picture is a brand creative that you want to share to a wider audience, upload it as a new post and then boost it.

  1. Go to your Facebook Page. 
  2. Click **Photo/video** at the top of your Page's timeline.
  3. Click **Upload photos/video**.
  4. Upload the photo you'd like to boost.
  5. Add a caption or description.
  6. Click **Share now**.
  7. Click **Boost post** on the new post.
  8. To drive people from Facebook to take actions that are important to your business, add a post button to your ad (optional).
  9. Select the audience you'd like to reach (may select multiple), or click **Create new audience**. If you click **Create new audience** , you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits like age, location, interests and more.
  10. Click the dropdown menu below **Total budget** to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a prefilled budget or click **Choose your own** and enter a custom budget.

### Draft posts

Draft posts can't be boosted. Publish your draft post before trying to boost it.

  1. Go to your Facebook Page.
  2. Click **Publishing tools** at the top of your Page.
  3. Below the **Posts** section, click **Drafts**.
  4. On the draft post you'd like to boost, click the dropdown menu next to **Edit** and select **Publish**.
  5. Find the post on your Facebook Page.
  6. Click **Boost post**.
  7. Select the audience you'd like to reach (may select multiple), or click **Create new audience**. If you click **Create new audience** , you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits like age, location, interests and more.
  8. Click the dropdown menu below **Total budget** to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a prefilled budget or click **Choose your own** and enter a custom budget.
  9. Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to **Run this ad until**.
  10. Select your preferred payment option. If there are no payment options available for your account, you'll be prompted to add one after clicking **Boost**.
  11. Confirm that the rest of the fields are complete.
  12. Click **Boost**.



Once your ad is reviewed and approved, it will start running.

### Notes or posts containing a link to a note

Notes can't be boosted. Instead, try creating a new post with the content from your note and boosting it.

  1. Go to the note you were trying to boost.
  2. Copy the content, such as text and images, from the note.
  3. Go to your Facebook Page.
  4. Click **Write a post**.
  5. Paste the copied content into the new post.
  6. Click **Share now**.
  7. Find the post on your Page and click **Boost post**.
  8. Select the audience you'd like to reach (may select multiple), or click **Create new audience**. If you click **Create new audience** , you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits like age, location, interests and more.
  9. Click the dropdown menu below **Total budget** to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a prefilled budget or click **Choose your own** and enter a custom budget.
  10. Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to **Run this ad until**.
  11. Select your preferred payment option. If there are no payment options available for your account, you'll be prompted to add one after clicking **Boost**.

### Live and scheduled videos

Only Pages with the blue verified badge can boost live and scheduled videos at this time. Boost a different type of media that's available to all Pages regardless of verification status, such as a standard video. 

  1. Go to your Facebook Page.
  2. Click**Photo/video** at the top of your timeline.
  3. Click **Upload photos/video**.
  4. Select the video you want to boost.
  5. Enter details for your video to create your video post.
  6. Set the thumbnail for your video post.
  7. Click **Publish**.
  8. Once the video has uploaded, go to the video on your Page's timeline and click **Boost Post**.
  9. To drive people from Facebook to take actions that are important to your business, add a post button to your ad (optional).
  10. Select the audience you'd like to reach (may select multiple), or click **Create new audience**. If you click **Create new audience** , you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits like age, location, interests and more.
  11. Click the dropdown menu below **Total budget** to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a prefilled budget or click **Choose your own** and enter a custom budget.
  12. Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to **Run this ad until**.

### Albums

Albums live in a static place within your Page that can be accessed at any time when someone visits your Photos. Try highlighting a single photo your audience can engage with by uploading it to a post and boosting it. 

  1. Go to your Facebook Page.
  2. Click **Photo/video** at the top of your timeline.
  3. Click **Upload photos/video**.
  4. Upload the photo you'd like to boost.
  5. Add a caption or description.
  6. Click **Share now**.
  7. Click **Boost post** on the new post.
  8. To drive people from Facebook to take actions that are important to your business, add a post button to your ad (optional).
  9. Select the audience you'd like to reach (may select multiple), or click **Create new audience**. If you click **Create new audience** , you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits like age, location, interests and more.
  10. Click the dropdown menu below **Total budget** to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a prefilled budget or click **Choose your own** and enter a custom budget.

### Shared posts can't be boosted

To ensure every person who sees your content knows who initially published it, shared posts can't be boosted. Instead, create a new post with original content and then boost it. 

  1. Go to your Facebook Page.
  2. Click **Write a post** and enter your content.
  3. Click **Share now**.
  4. Find the post on your Page and click **Boost post**.
  5. Select the audience you'd like to reach (may select multiple), or click **Create new audience**. If you click **Create new audience** , you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits like age, location, interests and more.
  6. Click the dropdown menu below **Total budget** to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a prefilled budget or click **Choose your own** and enter a custom budget.
  7. Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to **Run this ad until**.
  8. Select your preferred payment option. If there are no payment options available for your account, you will be prompted to add one after clicking **Boost**.

### Shared albums can't be boosted

To ensure every person who sees your content knows who initially published it, shared albums can't be boosted. Instead, create a new post with original photos and then boost it. 

  1. Go to your Facebook Page.
  2. Click **Photo/video** at the top of your Page's timeline.
  3. Click **Create photo album**.
  4. Upload up to 4 images that you'd like to include in the boosted post.
  5. Name the album and add a description.
  6. Click **Post**.
  7. Find the new album post on your Page and click **Boost post**.
  8. Select the audience you'd like to reach (may select multiple), or click **Create new audience**. If you click **Create new audience** , you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits like age, location, interests and more.
  9. Click the dropdown menu below **Total budget** to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a prefilled budget or click **Choose your own** and enter a custom budget.
  10. Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to **Run this ad until**.
  11. Select your preferred payment option. If there are no payment options available for your account, you'll be prompted to add one after clicking **Boost**.
  12. Confirm that the rest of the fields are complete.
  13. Click **Boost**.



Once your ad is reviewed and approved, it will start running.

### Expired posts cannot be boosted

Expired posts aren't useful for your audience, so we wouldn't want you to boost them. Create a new post (even if it's similar or identical to the expired post) and boost it. 

  1. Go to the expired post you'd like to boost.
  2. Copy the content, such as text and images, you want to boost.
  3. Go to your Facebook Page.
  4. Depending on the type of post you'd like to boost, click **Offer/discount** , **Create an event** or **Publish a job post** at the top of your Page's timeline.
  5. Paste the copied content into the new post. 
  6. Click **Share now**.
  7. Find the post on your Page and click **Boost post**.
  8. Select the audience you'd like to reach (may select multiple), or click **Create new audience**. If you click **Create new audience** , you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits like age, location, interests and more.
  9. Click the dropdown menu below **Total budget** to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a prefilled budget or click **Choose your own** and enter a custom budget.
  10. Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to **Run this ad until**.
  11. Select your preferred payment option. If there are no payment options available for your account, you'll be prompted to add one after clicking **Boost**.
  12. Confirm that the rest of the fields are complete. 
  13. Click **Boost**.



Once your ad is reviewed and approved, it will start running.

### Boosted post does not support expired offer

Expired offers aren't useful for your audience, so we wouldn't want you to boost them. Create a new offer (even if it's similar or identical to a prior offer) and boost it. 

  1. Go to the expired offer you'd like to boost.
  2. Copy the content you want to include in the boosted post such as the text and images.
  3. Go to your Facebook Page. 
  4. Click **Offer/discount** at the top of your Page's timeline.
  5. Describe your offer. 
  6. Edit the expiration date for your offer if you'd like it to run longer or shorter than a week.
  7. Add a photo.
  8. Select whether people can use the offer **Online** or **In-store**.
  9. Set up a unique code or bar code for your offer and add terms and conditions (optional). 
  10. Click **Publish**.
  11. Once your offer ad is approved, go to the offer on your Page and click **Boost offer**.
  12. Select the audience you'd like to reach (may select multiple), or click **Create new audience**. If you click **Create new audience** , you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits like age, location, interests and more.
  13. Click the dropdown menu below **Total budget** to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a prefilled budget or click **Choose your own** and enter a custom budget.
  14. Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to **Run this ad until**.
  15. Select your preferred payment option. If there are no payment options available for your account, you'll be prompted to add one after clicking **Boost**.
  16. Confirm that the rest of the fields are complete.
  17. Click **Boost offer**.



Once your ad is reviewed and approved, it will start running.

### Publish this page to boost posts

If your Page is unpublished, you won't be able to boost a post. 

  1. Go to your Facebook Page.
  2. Find the post you want to boost.
  3. Click **Boost post**.
  4. A dialog will appear prompting you to publish your Page. Click **Publish Page**.
  5. Go back to the post you'd like to boost and click **Boost post**.
  6. Select the audience you'd like to reach (may select multiple), or click **Create new audience**. If you click **Create new audience** , you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits like age, location, interests and more.
  7. Click the dropdown menu below **Total budget** to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a prefilled budget or click **Choose your own** and enter a custom budget.
  8. Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to **Run this ad until**.
  9. Select your preferred payment option. If there are no payment options available for your account, you'll be prompted to add one after clicking **Boost**.
  10. Confirm that the rest of the fields are complete.
  11. Click **Boost**.



Once your ad is reviewed and approved, it will start running.

### Request permission to advertise

Your role determines what you can do on a Page. To advertise, contact the Page admin to update your Page role to admin, advertiser, moderator or editor, and then try boosting your post. 

If you're an admin, follow these steps to assign a role:

  1. Click **Settings** at the top of your Page.
  2. Click **Page roles** in the left menu.
  3. Enter a name or email in the box and select the person from the list that appears.
  4. Click **Editor** to select a role from the dropdown menu.
  5. Click **Add** and enter your password to confirm.

### URL in ad can't contain Facebook click ID

A post can't be boosted if it contains a Facebook click ID. A Facebook click ID is a string of characters that sometimes is added to the end of a URL when someone views or clicks a link on Facebook. Create a new post (even if it's similar or identical to the current post) and boost it. 

  1. Find the post you'd like to boost.
  2. Copy the content, such as text and images, you want to boost.
  3. Go to your Facebook Page.
  4. Click **Write a post** at the top of your timeline and enter your content. 
  5. Confirm any links you insert into the post don't contain the Facebook click ID. To remove a Facebook click ID from your URL, find the text string **fbclid=** then delete **fbclid=** and all subsequent characters.

**Note:** A Facebook click ID is usually a string of 61 characters.

  6. Click **Share now**.
  7. Find the post on your Page and click **Boost post**.
  8. Select the audience you'd like to reach (may select multiple), or click **Create new audience**. If you click **Create new audience** , you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits like age, location, interests and more.
  9. Click the dropdown menu below **Total budget** to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a prefilled budget or click **Choose your own** and enter a custom budget.
  10. Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to **Run this ad until**.
  11. Select your preferred payment option. If there are no payment options available for your account, you'll be prompted to add one after clicking **Boost**.
  12. Confirm that the rest of the fields are complete.
  13. Click**Boost**.



Once your ad is reviewed and approved, it will start running.

### Ad account status is disabled

Your ad account was flagged for unusual activity, so it can't run any boosted posts. 

**To check the status of your account:**

  1. Go to [**Ads Manager**](https://www.facebook.com/adsmanager/manage/campaigns).
  2. Below status, confirm that your status is **Active**. 



**If you personally closed an ad account and want to reactivate it:**

  1. Go to [**Ads Manager**](https://www.facebook.com/adsmanager/manage/campaigns).
  2. Click **Reactivate** at the top of the Page.

### Payment disabled for people

People with unusual account activity can be restricted from advertising and their payment methods will be paused. If you think this is a mistake, you can [request a review](/help/contact/189823244398879) of your ad account.

After the review is complete, you'll receive a message in your inbox about your advertising access status.

### Post can't be boosted

The job post you're trying to boost doesn't appear on your Page because it's either unpublished or expired. Create a new job post and boost it once it's been approved. 

  1. Go to the job post you'd like to boost.
  2. Copy the content, such as the text and images, you want to include in the boosted post.
  3. Go to your Facebook Page.
  4. Click **Publish a job post** at the top of your Page's timeline. 
  5. Describe the job post by entering a job title, location, job type and details. 
  6. Add a salary, additional questions and an email for applications (optional).
  7. Click **Publish job post**.
  8. Find the new job post on your Page. 
  9. Click **Boost post**.
  10. Enter the locations you'd like your job post to reach (may select multiple).
  11. Click the dropdown menu below **Total budget** to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a prefilled budget or click **Choose your own** and enter a custom budget.
  12. Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to **Run this ad until**.
  13. Select your preferred payment option. If there are no payment options available for your account, you'll be prompted to add one after clicking **Boost**.
  14. Click **Boost**.



Once your ad is reviewed and approved, it will start running.

### You can't promote this post

Use Meta Business Manager to create and manage ads for your Page. 

  1. Go to **Business Manager**.
  2. Below posts, find the post you want to boost and click it.
  3. Click **Boost post**.
  4. Select the audience you'd like to reach (may select multiple), or click **Create new audience**. If you click **Create new audience** , you'll have the option to create an audience based on traits like age, location, interests and more.
  5. Click the dropdown menu below **Total budget** to select a budget for your boosted post. You can select a prefilled budget or click **Choose your own** and enter a custom budget.
  6. Choose a duration option or enter a custom end date next to **Run this ad until**.
  7. Select your preferred payment option. If there are no payment options available for your account, you'll be prompted to add one after clicking **Boost**.
  8. Confirm that the rest of the fields are complete and click **Boost**.



Once your ad is reviewed and approved, it will start running.

### Advertising not allowed

Pages that violate Meta Advertising Standards or other standards can be restricted from advertising, including the ability to boost posts. If you think this is a mistake, you can request a review of your Page.

**Note:** The following Page roles can request a review: admins, editors, moderators and advertisers. If you are not one of these roles, you will need to contact someone from your Page who can request a review. Confirm your [Page role ](https://www.facebook.com/help/510247025775149)and then follow the appropriate steps below. 

**If you are a Page role that can request a review:**

  1. Go to your Facebook Page.
  2. Find the post you want to boost and hover over **Boost unavailable**. You'll see a tooltip explaining that advertising is no longer allowed on your Page.
  3. Select **Request review**.
  4. Select your Page and fill out the details requested in the form. When you're done, select **Send**.



Once the review is complete, you will receive a message in your inbox on the status of your Page's advertising access.

**If you are a Page role that can't request a review:**

  1. Go to your Facebook Page.
  2. Select **Settings** in the top menu.
  3. Select **Page roles** in the left menu.
  4. Find the section titled **Existing Page roles** to see a list of admins and advertisers who can request a review.
  5. Contact an admin or advertiser from the list and ask them to request a review.
